Syrian Businesswomen support their national economy through their own projects

“As important members of their community, Syrian women are active participants in social, economic and political fields of society. They have always sought to stand by their country through their presence as lifesavers, paramedics, media activists, teachers, and mothers who have lost their homes, husbands and children due to the war . Despite it all, Syrian women never lost their courage or resistance.” Mrs. Maysaa Dahman , Member of  the businesswomen Committee of Damascus and its Countryside Chamber  of Industry said in an interview with the Syriatimes e-newspaper.
Mrs.  Dahman’s passion for  handcrafting accessories for more than 30 years prompted her to establish her own project, which she developed using precious stones to revive tangible history and add value and beauty to her accessories .
“ With the aim of supporting women financially and enhancing their productive role in society , I rely on a large number  of them who have proven their skill and ability at work  after holding training courses  for them in the field of manufacturing accessories” Mrs. Dahman said.
The businesswoman told Syriatimes that she owned a small workshop before the war, but she lost it during the war years, which forced her to seek help from women at home to continue her work.
” I also train  young women who want to work in this craft and teach them its basics in order to provide them with a craft that enables them to rely on themselves, find a source of income for themselves.  I also train and encourage people with disabilities to provide them with job opportunities” she said.
The industrialist  expressed that  “The handicraft accessories require good work, patience, creativity, and innovation, which  women  have proved this during our cooperation  for more than ten years have,” noting that she uses their viewpoints to develop the work and achieve success, excellence, and continuity.
She added that she has a factory for manufacturing  children’s clothing through which Mrs. Dahman seeks to provide job opportunities for women who work at the factory or at their homes.
With the aim of developing her work and making her accessories   distinctive, she added beads and precious stones that give energy and optimism to produce jewelry, bracelets, rosaries, rings, and others upon request.
She pointed out that she obtains the precious stones needed for the work from several countries, including China, Iran, and Spain, where each stone carries a specific meaning, for example  the agate stone gives positive energy to its bearer, the amethyst, with its violet color, gives happiness and pleasure, and the tiger stone (tiger’s eye) helps with meditation, concentration.”
Dahman pointed out that she has always sought to display her handicrafts of accessories pieces  made of precious stones through her participation in many  exhibitions held in Syria and abroad including  Senegal, Tunisia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, and Burkina Faso.
Regarding the marketing of her products, Dahman indicated that she relies on direct sales in her own store and through social networking websites, exhibitions and bazaars, as she creates designs that keep pace with the times by mixing different types of precious stones.
” To be A Syrian woman means to be a woman of  steel, strong will and determination. Syrian women can not be broken no matter the circumstances are ” Mrs. Dahman concluded.
