Syrian, Belarusian Trucks Cooperation

Damascus, (ST) –  Representatives of the Ministries of Industry and Minister of Public Works and Local Administration discussed with the Belarusian Ambassador in Damascus Alexander Ponomarev and representatives of the Belarusian MAZ company about the possibility of supplying trucks to Syria and the establishment of a joint company to assemble the trucks in Syria.

The Deputy Minister of Industry Dr. Rashad al –Isseh confirmed the importance of taking advantage of Belarusian technological developments in cars and trucks industry and the establishment of a joint company to assemble buses and trucks in Syria and meet its needs or supply a part of these machinery through a line of credit that was discussed during the meetings of the Joint Syrian- Belarusian Cooperation Committee last April.

For his part, Deputy Minister of Public Works Dr. Mualla Khedr pointed out that the Ministry of Public Works needs more than 600 machinery for its companies for following-up work in preparation for reconstruction projects, pointing to the quality of the Belarusian industry in this domain.

 “The Ministry of Works is in connection with the call for an exhibition of the machinery and trucks in Syria, pointing to the need for the participation of Belarusian companies in this exhibition, stressing the importance of strengthening relations between Syria and Belarus in the interest of the two friendly peoples.

For his part, the Ambassador of Belarus in Damascus stressed the need to strengthen economic and trade relations between the two countries and supply a part of the machinery that Syria needs from the Maz company and the supply of the remaining needs to be discussed through the line of credit that is being studied by the Government of Belarus, stressing that all proposals will be conveyed to concerned bodies in Belarus to be studied and to take the appropriate decision.

For his part, Deputy Director General of the Belarusian Company Vitaly Gurren tharik noted the readiness of his company to provide what Syria need softrucks and machinery, pointing out that a number of experts will arrive in Syria this month to follow up the implementation of what is agreed upon.

The meeting comes within the framework of following up the implementation of the Final Protocol, which took place during the meetings of the Joint Syrian- Belarusian Committee of Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation in the Belarusian capital, Minsk, at the beginning of last April.
