Syrian army retakes areas from ISIS in Palmyra

PROVINCES,(ST)_Syrian army has regained control of radio tower, hills overlooking Palmyra city and the western entrance of the city after heavy clashes with the ISIS terrorists, a military source declared Sunday.

The source confirmed that the ISIS terrorists were inflicted big losses in the clashes that coincided with targeting ISIS groupings on the outskirts of Arak field and in the eastern and northern edges of Palmyra city.

There were also airstrikes on ISIS groupings on the outskirts of ‘al-Hil’ field, al-Abyad dam and in an area located west of the 3rd station for conveying oil in Palmyra countryside.

Last night, army units eliminated over 150 terrorists, most of them were of foreign nationals, as they were trying to infiltrate into the 3rd station for conveying oil, east of Palmyra city.

Palmyra city ‘safe’

In this context, Homs Governor Talal Barazi told today the official news agency (SANA) that army units in cooperation with Palmyra city’s people recaptured radio tower, hills overlooking Palmyra city and the western entrance of the city after killing dozens of ISIS terrorists there.

He added that army units are combing al-Amereyeh town and they are removing explosives planted by the ISIS terrorists among homes.

“The historic Palmyra city is safe and the road linking Homs and Palmyra is completely safe,” Barazi stressed.

16 airstrikes

The Beirut based al-Mayadeen TV channel said that Syrian warplanes staged 16 airstrikes against the ISIS convoys- 80 cars- that withdrew from the city of Palmyra.

In another development, SANA quoted a military source as citing that army units destroyed 3 terrorist outposts in Daraa al-Balad and carried our concentrated operations against the al-Nusra Front hideouts in the northern countryside of Daraa, south of the country.

11 terrorists killed

Other military operations were conducted by army units against the ISIS hideouts in Der Ezzour city.

As many as 11 terrorists died when army units struck ISIS hideout in Hwejet Saker quarter in the eastern edge of Der Ezzour city, a military source confirmed.

In northern Aleppo province, army units foiled ISIS terrorists’ attempt to blast a car bomb on the outskirts of the air forces academy and eliminated many terrorists in several areas in the northern and southwestern countryside of the province and in the city of Aleppo.
