TEHRAN, (ST)- The Syrian army killed tens of al-Qaeda-linked terrorists, including a notorious commander, in heavy clashes in Aleppo countryside on Saturday.
Mahmoud Ahmad Maju, an al-Nusra ringleader, and over 25 of his armed men were killed by the army in Aleppo countryside in Northwestern Syria. Al-Nusra is affiliated to the al-Qaeda terrorist organization, Fars News Agency reported.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against Syrian police forces and border guards being reported across the country.
Hundreds of people, including members of the security forces, have been martyred, when some protest rallies turned into armed clashes.
The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.
