Syrian army defeats al-Nusra Front and ISIS in 21 areas

PROVINCES,(ST)_Syrian army has regained control over 21 areas in the western countryside of Damascus and in the northwestern countryside of Daraa as well as in the southeastern countryside of Qameshli, the official news agency (SANA) reported Saturday.

The agency quoted a statement released today by the General Command of Army and the Armed Forces as saying that : “army units in cooperation with popular defense groups continue operations in the  southern region and have restored stability and security to al-Habbareyeh, Kherbet al-Seltaneh and Hamrit towns in the western countryside of Damascus.”

The statement added that army units and popular defense groups recaptured Tal Qarin and Tlol Fatmeh in the northwestern countryside of Daraa after killing many terrorists affiliated to the al-Nusra Front in the said areas.

Ongoing operations

“The operations are still ongoing on several axes in the region amid collapse in the ranks of terrorist gangs ,” the statement asserted, clarifying that the recent achievements realized by army units in countryside of Damascus, Quneitra and Daraa are important because they tighten the grip on  terrorists in the other areas and cut off terrorists’ supply routes into the region.

The army command confirmed that army units will go ahead with fulfilling their national missions to make more achievements nationwide till restoration of stability and peace to the country.

Gen. Ayyoub in western countryside of Damascus

Chief of the General Staff of the Army and Armed Forces Gen. Ali Abdillah Ayyoub inspected military units in towns of al-Habbareyeh, Kherbet al-Seltaneh and Hamrit.

He conveyed President Bashar al-Assad’s greetings to the military units’ commanders and soldiers.

Meanwhile, army units intensified operations against terrorist organizations on several axes in Quneitra countryside and in the northwestern countryside of Daraa where big quantity of weapons belonging to terrorists were destroyed.

“Many terrorists were killed and injured and a big quantity of weapons were destroyed in the strategic Tal al-Harra overlooking a wide area in the countryside of Daraa and Quneitra,” a military source declared, adding that an army unit pounded a terrorist hideout in al-Kark quarter in Daraa al-Balad.

Further terrorists, some of them were of Arab nationalities, were eliminated in a series of operations carried out by army units on the outskirts of Tafas town and in Da’el, Athman, Mzerib, Em Walad towns in Daraa countryside and in several areas in Daraa al-Balad.

In the southeastern countryside of Qameshli, army units recaptured 16 towns and farms from the ISIS terrorists.

The towns are- Tal al-Dahab, Jelbarat, Jbara, al-Teffaheyeh, Tal Shiekh, Bazbagh, Kherbet Hsin, al-Tawil, al-Tawarij.

The fresh progress comes a day after army units regained control of 5 towns in the same region.

Elsewhere, army units continued pursuing terrorist organizations outside Homs, Hama, Idlib and Aleppo.
