Syrian army broke ISIS siege of Kweris airbase in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, the Army and Armed Forces command said in a statement released Tuesday.
The statement clarified that the fresh achievements was made in the wake of qualitative operations carried out by army units in cooperation with popular defense groups where ISIS terrorists were inflicated heavy losses.
“The operations, which were preceded by recapturing strategic nearby hills and towns, resulted in breaking through the ISIS defense lines and breaking the siege of the airbase,” the statement said, describing the new achievement as ‘ a qualitative’ and comes within the achievements made by the Syrian Arab army against terrorist organizations in several fronts.
“It [the fresh achievement] is a knockout blow to the terrorist project and its backers,” the command said, stressing the continuity of military operations against terrorist organizations nationwide until restoration of stability and peace to all areas.
Kweris airbase- about 35km east of Aleppo city-had beenbesieged by ISIS terrorists since 2012.
