Syrian-Armenian Friendship committee stresses the importance of enhancing relations between the two countries

Damascus, (ST) – The Head and members of the Syrian-Armenian Parliamentary Friendship committee at the People’s Assembly visited on Wednesday the Armenian Embassy in Damascus and met the Ambassador, Tigran Gevorgyan to offer congratulations on the 30th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Armenia.

During the visit, the Head and members of the committee affirmed the necessity of enhancing relations between Syria and Armenia in various fields for the interest of the peoples of the two countries.

In turn, Ambassador Gevorgyan said that, “the independence of Armenia in 1991 through a general referendum was the choice of the Armenian people .

He added that cooperation between Syria and Armenia is deeply-rooted and based on direct transparent dialogue between the two leaderships and on joint interests.

The Ambassador said that the historic relations reached an advanced level after the visit of President Bashar al-Assad to Armenia in 2009 and the visit of former Armenian President, Serzh Sargsyan to Syria in 2010.
