Syrian archaeologists discuss with a delegation from the (IFPO) ways to enhance cooperation in heritage preservation

A team from the Directorate-General of Antiquities and Museums discussed with a delegation from the” Institut français du Proche-Orient” (IFPO) today ways to enhance cooperation in the areas of preserving and recovering Syrian cultural heritage.

The delegation, headed by Carol Roche, Scientific Director of the French Center for the Middle East, including Amelie Methivier from the French National Heritage Institute (INP), and restorer Joyce Nassar, listened to a presentation from Syrian experts on the reality of cultural heritage in Syria, including museums and archaeological sites, the most prominent current needs, and the future steps planned to be implemented within the framework of the cooperation agreement between the two parties, which focuses on emergency restoration projects, training, and strengthening scientific research.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the French delegation visited the National Museum of Damascus, where they viewed the laboratories specializing in the restoration of artifacts and learned about their workflow.
