Syrian Arab army wards off terrorists’ attack on garrisons outside Palmyra, clashes with IS in Der Ezzour

PROVINCES,(ST)_Syrian army has warded off terrorists’ attack on garrisons on the outskirts of Jabal al-Shaer area outside Palmyra and has destroyed a tunnel used by IS in Der Ezzour province, media and military sources reported Friday.

A military source declared that army units scored direct hits against terrorists that tried to attack several garrisons on the outskirts of Jabal al-Shaer outside Palmyra in Homs countryside.

The same area witnessed yesterday heavy fighting between army units and the Daesh [IS] terrorists where hundreds of terrorists were reportedly killed and injured.

More terrorists were mowed down today when army units thwarted terrorists’ infiltration attempt from al-Waer quarter into al-Waer orchards in Homs province.

30-meter long tunnel destroyed

In addition, Syrian army destroyed a 30-meter long tunnel used by the terror organization Daesh [known as IS or ISIS or ISIL in foreign media reports] in al-Matar al-Qadim quarter [Old Airport quarter] in Der Ezzour city amid continuity of clashes between army units and Daesh terrorists in Hwejet Saker amd al-Sena’a quarter in the same city.

Many terrorists were killed and injured in the clashes, the official news agency (SANA) said.  

The agency added that many terrorists were killed by Syrian army in the eastern edge of Athman and Msim towns in southern Daraa province and in Bestan al-Bash, B’edin, Salaheddin, al-Jabereyeh, Hritan and Khan al-Asal in and outside Aleppo.

94 gunmen and wanted persons surrender

On the other hand, some 94 gunmen and wanted persons from Damascus and its suburbs, Idlib, Hama, Homs, Daraa, Quneitra and Lattakia turned themselves in to competent authorities under national reconciliation process.
