Syrian Arab army recaptures town near Tabaqa airbase in Raqqa

PROVINCES,(ST)_Military source has dismissed media reports that terrorists entered Tabaqa airbase in northeastern province of Raqqa.

The source was quoted on the official news agency (SANA) as saying that the reports of terrorists’ entry into Tabaqa airbase in Raqaa are ‘groundless’.

He added that the army units and defense forces of the airbase have regained control of Ajil town and surrounding areas and killed large numbers of terrorists there.

Terrorists’ weapons in the town and surrounding areas were seized, the source said.

In this context, the Damascus-based al-Watan newspaper said that the army units warded off an attack by the Islamic State-linked terrorists on Tabaqa airbase from two axes.

The paper said  that the army units escalated airstrikes against the IS-linked terrorists’ sites north of Raqqa city.

“On Sunday, the army units carried out 43 airstrikes against the IS-held areas in Raqqa province where 31 IS-linked terrorists were killed,” the paper said.

The fighting in Raqqa province coincided with concentrated operations against terrorist groupings in Ein Tarma, Zebdin, al-Nashabeyeh farms, Zamalka and Erbin in Damascus countryside and in several areas outside Aleppo, Idlib, Quneitra and Daraa as well as in Der Ezzour.

Many terrorists were killed and injured in the operations.
