PROVINCES,(ST)_At least 38 contested areas in seven provinces have witnessed operations against foreign-backed terrorist groups amid reports of mortar attacks against citizens in Damascus and its countryside, according to the official news agency.
The operations launched on Tuesday by units of the armed forces in the flashpoint areas in Aleppo, Homs, Daraa and Der Ezzour provinces and outside Damascus, Idleb and Lattakia provinces resulted in eliminating dozens of the terrorists, most of them were non-Syrians.
As many as 71 terrorists, most of them were of Saudi, Turkey, Qatari and Libyan nationalities, were killed and 43 wounded in 5 towns –alKom, Rabe’a, alKart, Mrij and Ghamam- in Lattakia countryside.
Other terrorists reportedly perished in a series of operations carried out in 10 areas- Adra city, Duma, Jobar, Erbin, alZabadani, Khan alSheih, Yabroud, Madaya and Maaloula, outside the capital [Damascus].
Most of the terrorist killed in the said areas affiliated to the blacklisted al-Nusra Front and the so-called Islamic Front, according to a military source.
Around 160 km to the north-east of Damascus, precisely in central Homs province, the units of the armed forces pounded many terrorists’ hideouts and destroyed weapons in towns of al-Khaledyeh, al-Dar al-Kabira, al-Ghagar and in al-Rastan city.
An unknown number of terrorist died in the aforementioned towns and in a tailored operation in the surrounding of the Aleppo central prison as well as in quarters of al-Jbeleh and al-Rashedeyeh in Der Ezzour province.
Infiltration bids
The operations coincided with defusing tens of explosive devices in areas of al-Naqqarin, al-Zarzour and al-Majbal outside Aleppo province and foiling terrorists’ infiltration attempts from quarter of Bani Zied, al-Dbet Street and vegetables market into al-Ashrafeyeh area.
Other infiltration bids into al-Mjemer area outside Sweida province and into al-Oseyeh town in Homs province were warded off and scores of terrorists were killed in Daraa al-Balad and in towns of Inkhel, Sahm al-Golan, Tsil, al-Nasereyeh and al-Sahwet in western countryside of Daraa province , around 110 km to the south of Damascus.
Moreover, an army unit clashed with terrorists tried to attack a garrison in Daraa al-Balad and mowed down 7 of them.
More terrorists belonging to al-Nusra Front, most of them were of Saudi and Jordanian nationals, died by detonation of a booby trap which they were making inside a hideout in Inkhel city.
Other ones also perished as they were bobby trapping a car inside a hideout near Ram Hamdan town in Idleb province.
Mortar attacks
The foreign-backed terrorists, who daily target residential areas nationwide, fired mortar shells on al-Adawi and al-Abbaseyen areas in Damascus and on Dwel’a and Jaramana districts outside Damascus.
At least 8 citizens were wounded in the mortar attacks which caused damages to Dar al-Shefa’a hospital in al-Adawi area and to six cars in the scenes, a police Command source said.
