Syrian Arab army deals death blow to foreign-backed terrorists outside Damascus

PROVINCES,(ST)_The capture of the strategic Yabroud city outside Damascus is, so far, the most painful blow delivered by army units to foreign-backed terrorists in the ongoing battles across the country.

It was officially reported today that the army units imposed full control over Yabroud city and killed a host of terrorists there. 

The city of Yabroud, which was the terrorists’ last major stronghold in al-Qalamon area, enjoys a strategic position as it is located near the Syrian- Lebanese border, around 80km to the north of Damascus and 80km to the south of Homs province.

According to media reports, there were as many as 10.000 armed terrorists belonging to more than 20 battalions inside Yabroud city. So, defeating the terrorists from there in the wake of carrying out a series of concentrated operations could be described as a great victory.

In this context, the official news agency clarified that the army units restored stability and security to the city in less than 48 hours after they surrendered all entrances and hills.

It noted that many terrorist fled to nearby towns, especially Rankous town.

Defense Minister in Yabroud            

Defense Minister Lt. General Fahd Frij toured the city today and was briefed on the military operation that conducted by the army units in cracking down on the terrorist gangs in the city and its surrounding.

“The Syrian Arab army will go ahead with restoring stability and security to all areas,” the minister said, conveying President Bashar al-Assad’s greeting to heroes of the army that restored stability and security to the city.

“Whatever the conspirators’ capabilities are big, out determination is bigger. And we will achieve victory” Lt. General Frij said addressing those who support conspiracy against Syria. 

Actually, the army units cut off a logistic supply line to terrorist groups in Damascus countryside by imposing control over the city and its surrounding, military sources said.

Infiltration bids into Aleppo city

Regarding results of today’s operations in other fronts, the state-run Syrian TV channel said army units thwarted infiltration bids into safe areas in Aleppo city- Karm Mayser, Berj al-Za’aror and al-Raheb areas- and mowed down several terrorists.

Further terrorists were reportedly killed when army units shelled terrorist groupings in several areas outside Aleppo, Homs, Quneitra and Idleb provinces.

Moreover, the army units warded off attacks by terrorist groups on garrisons in Mlouk and al-Darwesh garage in Homs countryside and in al-Breqa area in the southern countryside of al-Quneitra.

Syria is fighting terrorism exported from around 83 countries.

The US, France, the UK, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar are the core countries that sponsor terrorist groups operating in Syria, world media reports say.

Basma Qaddour
