Over the course of three days, the Sultanate of Oman will host the activities of the International Conference on Oral History “The Concept and Experience in the Arab World” on September 23, with the participation and attendance of Arab and international documentation institutions, bodies and centers.
The conference, held in cooperation between the National Records and Archives Authority in the Sultanate of Oman and the Wathiqat Watan Foundation in the Syrian Arab Republic.
It will be attended by academics and researchers specialized in oral history and document preservation, in addition to higher education students interested in the humanities and social sciences.
The participating Syrian researchers, who represent governmental and private institutions, will present lectures and research within several axes, starting with attempts to document oral history in Syria and reaching the Arab level.
An explanation will also be devoted to the experience of the Wathiqat Watan Foundation since its establishment and the projects that have been implemented in the field of oral history and preservation of popular heritage and its impact on social behavior.
Sessions will be devoted to the role of Syrian institutions in the field of documentation and preservation of Syrian heritage in all its forms.
Syrian academics will present their studies on the mechanisms of using oral history in the educational process, noting that Syrian institutions are pioneers in this field, and the experience of Syrian society in the field of heritage preservation and documentation will be an inspiring and important factor in implementing the main goal of the Oral History Conference, which is to develop oral history at the Arab level and convey it to be a societal and national cultural state.
