Syrian Ambassador to Russia: Western policies in the region, responsible for supporting terrorist groups

MOSCOW, (ST) _Syria’s Ambassador to Russia Dr. Riad Haddad stressed ” that terrorism faced by all Syrians since more than two years has no borders to cross into other countries and is a threat to all world communities .”
Haddad said in a speech in a round table meeting in the Russian Duma yesterday, dedicated to discuss the crisis in Syria, “It is terrorism which threatens everyone, Muslims, Christians and other religious minorities and the common civilization that has been accomplished since more than two thousand years,” stressing the need to be aware of ” the risk of this terrorism which has been threatening civil peace in the region, backed with money and weapons by countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey. “
Haddad held Western policies in the region, responsible for ” supporting terrorist groups which threaten Christian presence in the Levant “, pointing out that ” the international community remained silent over Israel’s policies that led to the displacement and expulsion of most of the Christians from their homes, including the Christians of Jerusalem ” as the ” American invasion of Iraq led to the migration of most of its Christians. “
Ambassador Haddad called for concerted efforts of all lovers of humanity ” to eradicate the scourge of terrorism wherever it exists and to refrain from the use of double standards that allow support for terrorism in Syria and call for fighting it in other places .”
For his part, Rev. Nikolai Balashov, deputy head of the Foreign Relations Department in the Russian Church stressed that “the Russian Orthodox Church share the Syrian people’s suffering, pain and grief,” adding ” We can not remain silent about what is happening today in Syria, where the gunmen are persecuting Syrians, and Christian and Muslim holy sites in the country are attacked and desecrated . “
Russian MP Pavel Daruchan member of the Russian Duma described the forces that have been attacking Syria for more than two years, as forces of ” world evil that are trying to destabilize the region and create a series of disputes in all the Orient because the Syrian government is working to unify the efforts of the nation and serve the interests of all people.”
He stressed that the Russian government did not and will not leave Syria alone and will provide it with all material and moral support.
