Syria Won Bronze Medal and Appreciation Certificate in the First Cyberspace Mathematical Competition
The Syrian Scientific Olympiad team won a bronze medal and an appreciation certificate at the first international cyberspace Mathematical Competition ( CMC ) which was organized via the internet on July the 13th and 14th by the American Mathematical Society ( AMS ).
The Distinction and Creativity Agency stated in a statement to SANA that the bronze medal was won by student Al-Hussein Hayyan Khalil of the 11th grade from “Fahim Muhammad” Secondary School in Tartous governorate, while the Certificate of Appreciation was gained by Alaa Eddin Ahmed of the 11th grade from Al-Basel Secondary School for Outstanding Students in Aleppo province.
The Syrian team participating in the competition included eight members from Damascus, Aleppo and Tartous”, where all the required technical measures were taken by the competition’s organizing committee including broadcasting a live video of students when they were submitting the online tests from their places.
The competition consisted of two five hour-long rounds during which the students solved high-level problems in algebra and geometry which were similar to those of the World Olympiad competitions.
The participation in this Olympiad is an important preparatory step for the Syrian Olympiad team to participate in the world Mathematical Olympiad, which will be organized by Russia “remotely” next September..
It is worth mentioning that the Syrian scientific Olympiad team has won five bronze medals and five certificates of appreciation in the Asia-Pacific Olympiad for Mathematics competitions which were organized by Indonesia via the Internet on the 10th of last March with the participation of about fifty countries.
