Syria wins third place in International Friendly King Cup in Thailand

Bangkok – The Syrian national men’s football team won the third place in the International Friendly King Cup in Thailand, SANA reported.

The team beat that of the United Arab Emirates 1-0 in a game they played on Sunday competing for the third and fourth places.

On Friday, the Thai team defeated the Syrian team 6-7 on penalties after they tied 2-2 in normal time.

Later today, the final game within the championship will be held between Jordan and Thailand.

 

The participation of the Syrian team in the King Cup tournament came within preparations for the final stage of qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.

Syria came in Group A along with the teams of Iran, South Korea, Uzbekistan, China and Qatar.
