Syria wins five bronze medals and five certificates of appreciation at the Asia-Pacific Olympiad for Mathematics

The Syrian Scientific Olympiad team won five bronze medals and five certificates of appreciation in the Asia-Pacific Olympiad for Mathematics competitions. The results of the competitions which were organized by Indonesia via the Internet on March 11with the participation of about fifty countries,  were announced today.

The Excellence and Creativity Authority stated in a statement that the bronze medals as well as the certificates of appreciation were won by Secondary School students from Damascus, Aleppo and Tartous.

The Authority noted that the ten students who represented Syria in the Olympiad received prizes, noting that three students from the tenth grade from the Syrian National Mathematics team succeeded in winning a certificate of appreciation despite not having the experience of participating in international competitions.

The Authority pointed out that with these results, Syria maintained its twenty-first international rank, as the Asia-Pacific Olympiad for Mathematics is the strongest international competition after the World Olympics and its tests simulate the level and style followed by the World Olympics  in terms of content and method in addition to the strength of competition in it.

The participation in this Olympiad is an important preparatory step for the Syrian Olympiad team to participate in the World Mathematical Olympiad, which will be “remotely”  organized by Russia during the coming period.
