Speaker of the Parliament [the People’s Assembly] Hammouda Sabbagh, affirmed on Tuesday that the coercive economic measures being imposed on the Syrian people hinder ensuring medicines for chronic diseases , medical devices and technologies.
Sabbagh’s remarks were made during his meeting with the Regional Director of the World Health Organization ( WHO) for the Eastern Mediterranean, Dr. Ahmed al-Manzari and an accompanying delegation.
The speaker referred to the importance of strengthening cooperation and coordination between Syria and the WHO in the light of the big challenges facing Syria, especially its health sector.
He added that Coronavirus pandemic has imposed more burdens on the Syrian state with its commitment to provide basic services to citizens, particularly in health and education sectors.
On his part, al-Manzari clarified that Syria still enjoys power despite the challenges it faces in order to achieve its comprehensive health goals and spread its medical services in all regions.
The WHO Regional Director stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation with Syria in the field of medical services and health systems in a way that ensures citizens’ access to “high quality health services without any financial burdens.
