Syria welcomes the easing of sanctions and the freezing of assets linked to Bashar al-Assad by Swiss authorities.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed the decision of the Swiss Federal Council to lift some sanctions imposed on Syria’s energy and transportation sectors, in addition to allowing limited financial services and banking relations.

The ministry emphasized that this step is in the right direction toward easing the unjust economic pressures harming the Syrian people.

The ministry also welcomed the Swiss Federal Council’s decision to impose an additional freeze on the assets of Bashar al-Assad and his inner circle.
It added that these assets belong to individuals responsible for war crimes and the suffering of the Syrian people.
Syria reaffirmed its strong support for efforts to ensure that these individuals cannot access funds looted from Syria’s wealth.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs appreciated Switzerland’s commitment to preventing these funds from leaving its jurisdiction before undergoing judicial scrutiny to determine their source. It also expressed Syria’s hope for further discussions with Swiss authorities to ensure that any assets obtained unlawfully are returned in a way that benefits the Syrian people.
The ministry reaffirmed Syria’s call for Switzerland and the international community to continue taking effective steps that contribute to achieving justice, recovery, and long-term stability in the country.
