Syria Welcomes Remarks about Russian-US Agreement on Fighting Terrorism: Foreign Ministry

DAMASCUS, (ST)-The government of the Syrian Arab Republic has followed up with great interest the remarks made after the visit of the US Secretary of State to Moscow on July 15th and which affirmed the Russian and American sides’ agreement on fighting terrorism mainly “ISIS” and “Jabhat al-Nusra” terrorist organizations, a source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates declared on Sunday, stressing that Syria, which is standing steadfast at the frontline in the confrontation of terrorism, welcomes these remarks.

 The source told SANA that Syria affirms the strong determination of the Syrian Army to continue fighting the terrorists in cooperation with the Russian ally and the rest of members of the international community which cooperate with Russia to achieve the hoped-for goal in eliminating terrorism.

“On this basis, Syria is ready to coordinate the anti-terror aerial operations in accordance with the agreement between Russia and the United States.

According to the source, Syria has announced its commitment to the Russian-US brokered cessation of hostilities agreement in the country, but stressed its right to retaliate.

 In this regard, the Syrian government accords great interest to the issue of dissociating the groups which joined the agreement from the terrorist groups and affirm the need that the United States implement its pledges in this connection and to work as to put an end to the flow of terrorists, arms and money into Syria from neighboring countries, according to the source.

“Syria reiterates keenness on achieving a political solution for the crisis in the country that meets the aspirations of the Syrian people and gains their support as it is ready for resuming the intra-Syrian dialogue without preconditions with a view that this dialogue would lead to a comprehensive solution led by the Syrians themselves without foreign meddling and backed by the United Nations and the international community,” the source added.

The Syrian government will also continue doing its best as to improve the humanitarian situation in the country through delivering assistance to those who need in all Syrian areas.
