Syria wants to work with sincere national partners to build the future of the Syrian State: al-Jaafari

NEW YORK, (ST)- Forming the constitutional committee and the agreement on the principles of its work away from foreign interference is a national achievement that foiled the plans of Syria’s enemies to prolong the crisis and hamper political solution in the country, Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Bashar al-Jaaafri has underscored.

During a Security Council session on the situation in Syria on Monday, al-Jaafari said that Syria has succeeded in forming the committee for discussing the Syrian constitution through coordination with allies in Russia and Iran and through cooperation with the UN Chief’s Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen.

He reiterated that only the Syrians have the exclusive right to discuss and adopt their own national constitution without foreign interference, preconditions or blackmail attempts by some governments and parties that have bet on destabilizing and destroying Syria, stealing its resources, violating its sovereignty and undermining it independent decision through investing in terrorism in all its political, military and economic forms.

He reiterated that Syria has dealt positively with the results of the Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Sochi concerning an agreement on forming a constitutional committee and it has been keen on  achieving progress in the political process based on right principles that meet the Syrian people’s aspirations. He pointed out that the role of the UN chief’s envoy for Syria will be embodied in facilitating the work of the constitutional committee and bringing the view points of the committee’s members closer.

Al-Jaafari cautioned against allowing some parties to influence the Security Council to repeat what happened in Iraq and Libya.

He made it clear that Syria wants to work with sincere national partners who seek real partnership to build the future of the Syrian state and who are committed to serving the interests of the Syrian people and to maintaining the state’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

“Syria doesn’t want dummy partners who aim at imposing the agendas of their masters and justifying the acts of aggression, occupation and terrorism under whatever names,” he said.

He stressing that the partners should work to confront the policies of some countries that want to impose their own will and confiscate the Syrian national decision through supporting terrorism and separatist militias, through continue imposing unilateral coercive economic measures on the Syrians and through hampering  reconstruction in Syria and hindering the return of the Syrian refugees.

The senior Syrian diplomat reaffirmed that the success of any political process in Syria necessitates ending the illegal presence of the US, British, French and Turkish troops in the Syrian territories, pointing out that Syria’s commitment to achieving progress in the political process doesn’t mean that it will give up its right to defend its citizens and liberate every inch of its territory from terrorism and illegal military presence.
