Syria Voices Solidarity with Iran against US Threats, Backs Iranians’ Right to Enhance Own Technological Abilities

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Syria has stressed that the US administration’s threat to terminate the nuclear deal with Iran and imposing new coercive sanctions on Tehran provide clear evidence that  the US doesn’t respect or commit itself to its pledges towards international treaties and agreements. It also proves that the stances adopted by the United States towards international security and stability can’t be trusted.

An official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates told SANA on Sunday that the US administration’s disavowing of the deal and its continuous threats are unacceptable and they contradict international accords and conventions, particularly as Iran has strictly committed itself to the nuclear agreement as stressed by the International Atomic Energy Agency and the countries that signed the deal, including US allies.

The source added that Syria was not surprised by the Trump’s administration’s anti-nuclear deal stance which goes in harmony with the Israeli stance against it, pointing out that the US also imposed sanctions against Iran which is currently playing an effective role in the fight against terrorism in the region.

“Syria condemns the US administration’s aggressive policies against people’s interests, noting that these policies aggravate tension in the region and the world; tension that will consequently endanger international peace and security,” the source went on to say, expressing Syria’s solidarity with the Islamic Republic of Iran and its support for the Iranian people’s right to develop their technological and scientific abilities.

Syria has voiced support for the nuclear deal reached between Iran and the G5+1 in 2015 on the Iranian nuclear program and has considered this deal as a contribution to enhancing regional and international security and to adopting dialogue to solve problems, said the source, stressing that Syria has repeatedly warned the international community of the threat posed by the Israeli nuclear arsenal on the region’s security and stability.
