Syria Vehemently Condemns Coward Terrorist Attack against Russian Plane, Urges Unifying International Counterterrorism Efforts

DAMASCUS, (ST)- The Syrian Arab Republic has vehemently condemned the criminal coward terrorist attack which recently targeted a Russian civilian plane over Sinai in Egypt claiming the lives of more than 224 people on board.

In a statement of which SANA got a copy on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said Syria “renews it sympathy and solidarity with the Russian people and leadership and stresses its complete readiness to cooperate with the Russian authorities as to chase and punish the ISIL criminals who committed this terrorist act.”

The ministry added that the wrong American and western policies, which helped provide all forms of support for the terrorist organizations through their tools in  Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other countries in the region, have been the reason behind the expansion of the terrorism of ISIL, Jabhet al-Nousra and other al-Qaeda affiliated organizations towards other countries.

The support provided to the terrorist groups have served the western agenda in creating chaos in the region and destabilizing its countries as to dominate their resources, a danger Syria has repeatedly warned of, according to the ministry.

The ministry’s statement pointed out that because of the danger threatening the peace and stability of the world, Syria again calls for unifying international counterterrorism efforts in accordance with relevant Security Council resolutions on combating terrorism and on putting an end to the support provided by some countries to the terrorist organizations.

According to the Russian Federal Security Service Commission, the Russian plane crash in Sinai, Egypt, was caused by a terrorist attack as traces of explosives have been found in the wreckage of the plane.

President Vladimir Putin said that the incident is one of the bloodiest acts in Russia’s history and asserted that the Russian authorities will chase the terrorists who committed the crime wherever they are and will punish them.
