Syria: US-Turkish Deal on So-Called “Safe Zone” Flagrant Aggression of Syria’s Sovereignty, Territorial Integrity

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Syria has affirmed its rejection of the US-Turkish announced agreement on the establishment of a so-called “safe zone” in Syria’s northern region, according to an official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.

The source said that the agreement is a flagrant violation of Syrian’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity and it blatantly breaches the principles of International Law and UN Charter.

The agreement has very clearly uncovered the American-Turkish partnership in it’s aggression on Syria, said the source, noting that the deal serves the Israeli occupation interests as well as the expansionist aspirations of the Turkish regime and it unveils the Turkish government’s policy of circumvention and disinformation.

“Some Syrian parties, namely the Kurds, who have accepted being a tool for this US-Turkish scheme, are responsible for the new situation. It is time for them to reconsider their calculations and return to their national roots and join other Syrians and the Syrian Arab army in defense of the sovereignty, national unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic,” the source made it clear.

Syria appeals to the Arab masses to be on the alert against the danger of the expansionist dreams of the Turkish regime that disseminates killing and chaos all over the Arab homeland, the source said.

It concluded by urging the international community and the United Nations to condemn the flagrant American-Turkish act of aggression that threatens peace and stability in the region and the entire world and undermines all efforts to find a way out of the crisis in Syria.

According to media reports, Turkish and US military officials yesterday reached an agreement to establish a Joint Operations Center to oversee a so-called “safe zone” to manage what they called “tensions between Turkey and Kurdish militants”.
