Syria Urges Stopping Terrorism, Halting Mercenaries Funding

DAMASCUS, (ST)-The terrorist organizations’ persistence in committing crimes against civilians indicates that supporting terrorism has become a firm policy of the countries which have used international bodies including the Security Council a platform to justify the terrorists’ atrocities and to allow them to go without punishment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said on Sunday.

In two identical letters to the UN Chief and President of the Security Council regarding the terrorist organizations’ attack on two Aleppo schools today that led to the martyrdom of ten pupils and the wounding of 59 others, the ministry said terrorists having positions in Bustan al-Qaser in eastern Aleppo fired rockets on the two schools while the students were gathering in the schoolyard to send a message of amity to their fellow students and eastern districts of Aleppo.

It added that also terrorists of “Jabhat al-Nusra” , “Nour Eddin Zinki” and other armed groups, described by Washington, Paris, London, Doha and Riyadh as “moderate opposition”, targeted the Faculty of Law, the Mogambo district as well as al-Azameya and Saifuldawla neighborhoods in western Aleppo by mortar and rocket fire. The attacks claimed the lives of four people and wounded forty others.

These attacks are being launched as Aleppo has been witnessing repeated truces announced by the Syrian government and its allies to save innocent people but rejected by terrorist groups, according to the ministry.

The ministry stressed that “Syria calls for stopping terrorism and halting the funding of mercenaries who have targeted schools and hospitals and turned them into headquarters from where the terrorists launch their attacks and criminal acts.”

According to the letters, “Syria urges implementing the Security Council Resolutions regarding the fight against terrorism, particularly Resolution No. 2253 which is being ignored by terrorism sponsors in Ankara, Riyadh, Doha and some other capitals.”

The ministry reiterated that the Syrians and all world peoples who combat terrorism won’t be convinced by the disinformation campaigns launched by western officials and their tools in the region and by the pro-terrorist organizations media outlets that seek distorting facts about what is going on in Syria and aim at undermining the Syrian government’s efforts to fight terrorism and reach political solution to the crisis in Syria based on dialogue among the Syrians.
