DAMASCUS, (ST)- Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has stressed that the US-led Coalition’s incessant targeting of Syrian civilians and infrastructure constitutes a blatant violation of the UN Charter and the rules of the International law and indicates that the successive US administration’s have perpetuated the law of the jungle.
In two letters addressing the UN Chief and President of the Security Council, the ministry said the coalition led by Washington allegedly to fight ISIS added a new massacre to its record of crimes in Syria by targeting on Tuesday residential areas and infrastructure in Raqqa claiming the lives 78 civilians, wounding tens of others and causing huge damage to public and private properties in the targeted areas.
The ministry added that continuous airstrikes by the American warplanes and the alleged coalition’s air force against Syrian civilians, including women and children, destroying the infrastructure, cutting off life lines for the residential areas and using phosphorus bombs against the people of Raqqa form a blatant violation of the UN Charter and perpetuate the US administration’s law of the jungle, which contradicts the role of the US as a Security Council permanent member state that is responsible for preserving international peace and security.
The ministry went on to say that the government of the Syrian Arab Republic renews its condemnation of the crimes being perpetrated by the international coalition and which amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity. The Syrian government also urges the countries member in this coalition to withdraw from it and distance themselves from its crimes particularly after it has played a destructive role that contradicts its alleged goals, the ministry pointed out.
The ministry concluded its letters by saying that the Syrian government would like to remind the Security Council of its main responsibility in maintaining international peace and security and to urge it to implement its resolutions on fighting terrorism, particularly No 2253, and to put an immediate end to the coalition’s crimes against civilians in Syria.
