Syria urges immediate Security Council action against Washington’s repeated acts of aggression on Syrian territories

The Ministry of  Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has called on the Security Council to immediately move to stop the US acts of aggression on the Syrian territories.

In a letter to the UN Chief and President of the Security Council concerning  last Thursday’s US airstrike against areas in Deir Ezzor province near the Syrian-Iraqi borders, the ministry said that this aggression is part of the US forces’ attacks  on the Syrian land under false justifications and pretexts in a flagrant violation of the international law and the UN Charter.

This act of aggression contradicts the supposed role of the United States, as a permanent member of the Security Council, in preserving international peace and security, the ministry said. It stressed that this aggression will contribute to exacerbating tension in the region and will reflect a negative image of the policies of the new US administration which is supposed to abide by the international legitimacy, the international law and the Security Council’s resolutions related to maintaining the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of the Syrian Arab Republic.

The ministry urged the Security Council to assume its responsibilities towards preserving international peace and security and to immediately act as to prevent Washington from repeating such an aggression on a sovereign country and a UN founding member and to put an end to the US hostile policies which cause more chaos and  destruction in Syria and fuel tension in the entire region.
