Syria Urges Deterrent Security Council Measures against Countries Supporting Terrorism

DAMASCUS, (ST)- The terrorist attacks which have recently targeted residential areas in several Syrian provinces aim at undermining the “cessation of hostilities” agreement in Syria, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.

Addressing the UN Chief and President of the Security Council in two identical letters of which SANA got a copy on Tuesday, the ministry said “Jabhat al-Nusra and other affiliated terrorist groups, including “Jeish al-Fateh”, “Ahrar al-Sham” and the “Northern Front”, which are positioned in some areas surrounding Aleppo and run by operation rooms in Turkey, on Tuesday targeted Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in Aleppo and the nearby residential areas with tens of rockets and mortar rounds, claiming the lives of 15 people and wounding more than 100 others.

  Three residential buildings in Sheikh Maqsoud were collapsed in the attack which also caused huge damage to properties, the ministry added, pointing out that rescue efforts are still underway to save the lives of some civilians trapped under the rubble of the buildings.

The ministry also said that the terrorists of Jabhat al-Nusra and other affiliated groups, which some parties like to call “moderate opposition”, on Monday targeted al-Foua and Kafrya towns in Idleb countryside and the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in Aleppo, killing 8 people and wounding more than 20.

 “Moreover, the terrorists of the so-called “Islamic State”(ISIS), shelled civilians in Deir Ezzor neighborhoods, killing 5 civilians and wounding tens of innocent people and targeted Deir Ezzor airport with mustard gas, causing suffocation cases among defenders of the airport,” the ministry added.

“The government of the Syrian Arab Republic reiterates its respect for the Security Council resolutions relating to the cessation of hostilities agreement and urges the Security Council to take deterrent measures against the regimes of the countries that support and fund terrorism in Syria in implementation of Security Council resolutions Nos. 2170, 2178, 2199 and 2253,” the ministry stressed.
