DAMASCUS, (ST)_ Electricity Ministry and a group of Emirati companies signed on Thursday a cooperation agreement on setting up a 300-MW photovoltaic power station in Wedian al-Rabea area near Tishreen power station in Damascus countryside.
The agreement provides for building a photovoltaic power station with a capacity of 300 MW, providing it with the necessary fund by 100% through quarter-year installments.
The station would save annually 125,000 tons of fuel of the cost 117 billion Syrian pounds.
Director of Electricity Institute Mahmoud Ramadan said in a statement after signing ceremony that the agreement is the first of its kind with the UAE, adding that there are daily negotiations with the UAE companies to build similar stations in Aleppo, Damascus countryside and Homs.
For his part, the representative of the International Energy Investment company Yousef Al-Najjar said that his company is the first UAE company that will enter Syria after the war.
He affirmed that the photovoltaic station will support the Syrian national network and it will be carried out in short time.
