Syria, Tunisia to enhance cinematic cooperation

Damascus, (ST) – The Director General of the national Film Organization Murad Shaheen and the Tunisian Ambassador to Damascus Muhammad Al-Mahdhabi discussed the relation between the Syrian cinema and the Tunisian cultural institutions in the past and the present, and the possibility of working in the future to activate  joint cinematic work.

The Tunisian ambassador expressed his full readiness to provide all the facilitations and capabilities to hold regular weekly cinema programs and mutual cinematic activities between the two countries. He pointed to the possibility of organizing the work through an official memorandum of understanding (MoU)  between the Syrian Ministry of Culture and the National Center for Cinema and Image in Tunisia, which hosts major cinematic activities of interest to filmmakers.

It is noteworthy that the history of the Syrian cinema witnessed strong interaction with Tunisian cinema and the Tunisian cultural scene in general. Syrian films also participated in all Tunisian film festivals, including the Carthage Film Festival, Gabes and Djerba.

Syrian cinema won the  biggest number of foreign awards in Tunisia, the most recent of which was three awards won by “The Road” film last year.
