Syria Trust for Development Urges International Organizations to Mobilize Efforts to Protect Syrian Cultural Heritage

DAMASCUS, (ST)-The Syria Trust for Development has urged all international organizations particularly the UNESCO to shoulder their full responsibility and mobilize all efforts as to take practical steps to protect the historical Syrian city of Palmyra and the Syrian cultural heritage and not just to express condemnation and reprehension.

In a statement issued today marking the International Day of Peace, the Syria Trust condemned the barbaric crimes committed by the terrorist organizations against Palmyra and its locals, including the terrorists’ crime of beheading chief Syrian archeologist Khaled al-Assa’ad who made great archeological achievements in Palmyra.

“The systematic aggression against Palmyra, which has been a symbol of the multiplicity of cultures and religions, means targeting the Syrian cultural properties and the symbolic meaning of the Syrian civilization, which is listed on the world heritage by UNESCO, the Syria Trust said.

“Syria Trust shares with the world its condemnation against those criminals who couldn’t and won’t cancel or kill history whatever crimes they perpetrate in Palmyra or in any other Syrian area,” it added.

“Palmyra will continue to be the inventor of peace, the Syria Trust said, pointing out that the Syrian youths pray for peace in Syria and Palmyra.

It stressed that Syria’s cultural heritage will keep steadfast in the face of the heinous terrorist attacks and cultural cleansing attempts.
