Syria to take on Iraq in WAFT final

Syria’s national soccer team make it through to the West Asia Football Tournament final on Tuesday after edging their Bahraini counterparts on shoot-out in a semis encounter at the Friendship and Peace Stadium in Kuwait.

The official and extra times ended in 1-1.

With this marvelous win, the Syrian side will take on Iraq in the final on Thursday.

En route to the final, the Iraqi team beat Oman 2-0.

Back to Syria-Bahrain match, the Syrian side made an impressive performance in the first half as they were able to block their defensive zone and werte about to open the scoring early but al-Doni’s fierce drive went wide of the post.

The first half ended in a stalemate.

In the second half, the Syrian side pressurized the Bahraini defense line forcing them to pass back to their goalkeeper on several occasions.

Unlike the course of the match, from a counter attack, Abdul Wahab Ali put his side in the lead in the 67th minute with a powerful shot from 35 meters.

Three minutes later,Ahmad Doni, a player of great talent, notched up the equalizer  with a close –range shot.

After the end of extra time in stalemate, the shoot-outs have the upper hand in the benefit of the Syrian side thanks to the superiority of the goalkeeper Mus’ab Balhous.
