Syria to Press Ahead with War on Terrorism, Supporting Political Process

 DAMASCUS, (ST)- The achievements made by the Syrian Arab army and its allies as regards cleaning the Syrian territories of terrorism will step by step prepare the ground for bigger political action, particularly because the Syrian government has been dealing positively with every political initiative that aims to stop shedding the Syrian blood, restore security and stability in Syria and preserve the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country,  President Bashar Al-Assad has underscored.

During a meeting  on Thursday with a Russian delegation led by Alexander Lavrentiev, the Special Envoy of President Vladimir Putin of Russia, President Al-Assad reiterated the Syrian state’s determination to press ahead with the war on terrorism on the one hand and with supporting the political track on the other by speeding up national reconciliation and encouraging dialogue among all the Syrians through holding a national dialogue conference in Syria, by amending the constitution and by holding new parliamentary elections.

 Talks during the meeting dealt with the victories being achieved by the Syrian army and its allies in several areas, in addition to preparations for holding the Astana 7 meeting on Syria and the files to be discussed during this round of Astana talks.  

The Russian side, on its part, stressed that Russia will continue supporting the Syrian state in its war on terrorism and at the same time it will completely back the political process for settlement in Syria; a settlement that guarantees Syria’s territorial integrity and restores security and stability in the country.
