Syria taking part in NAM preparatory ministerial meeting in Baku

BAKU, (ST)- The preparatory ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) countries kicked off today in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, with the participation of Syria.

The meeting is held under the slogan “Adherence to Bandung principles for precise and proper response to challenges of contemporary world” to preparer for the summit of the NAM countries leaders due to be held between October 25th and 26th in Baku.

Syria’s delegation to the meeting is led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faysal al-Mikdad.

 At the beginning of the meeting, the Foreign Minister of Venezuela Jorge Arreaza delivered NAM presidency to the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov. The two sides reiterated the importance of adherence to Bandung principles, which go in line with the principles of the UN Charter, and they are based on mutual respect for national sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, non aggression,  political self-determination and equality.

NAM comprises 120 member states; 17 observer states and 10 observer international organizations.
