Syria takes part in international forum on Russia’s policy of peacemaking

Syria’s Ambassador to Russia Riad Haddad on Wednesday took part in an international historical forum hosted by the Russian city of Rostov under the title “Peacemaking throughout Generations in the History of the Russian State”.

In a statement during the opening session, Haddad said that “the title chosen for this forum indicates the Russian Federation’s policy of peacemaking throughout history.  In Syria, we witnessed this policy that aims at establishing peace and stability in the country and at the international level.”

During a meeting with Governor of the Rostov province Vasily Golubev, Haddad said that Syria is doing its best, with the help of Russian friends, to create the necessary conditions for the voluntary return of the Syrian refugees to their homeland, noting that a large number refugees have so far returned to Syria, but some Western countries continue to impede the current efforts to achieve this goal.

On his part, Golubev said that Rostov authorities are working to find new ways for cooperation with Syria, whether in the field of humanitarian support or in the field of creating suitable environment for fruitful cooperation between the businessmen of both countries.

On the sidelines of the forum, Haddad held several meetings in the Rostov Chamber of Commerce and Industry, visited the Rostov State University of Transport and Railway Transport and discussed cooperation in the fields of economy and education.

He pointed out that the joint Russian-Syrian committee for economic, trade, scientific and technical cooperation will be held soon. Important agreements are expected to be signed during the committee’s meetings.

In a statement to reporters, Haddad expressed Syria’s gratitude to the Russian people, government and leadership for firmly supporting the Syrian people in their struggle to defend their country’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.
