Syria Supports Russian military operation in Donbass, says Ambassador Dayoub

ehran, (ST) – The Syrian Ambassador in Tehran Dr. Shafik Dayoub affirmed that Syria supports the Russian special military operation to protect the residents of Donbass. He pointed to the great efforts made by Russia to avoid war and reach solutions.

During a solidarity visit to the Russian Embassy in Tehran yesterday, and his meeting with Russian Ambassador Levan Gagaryan, Dayoub stressed Syria’s firm stance in supporting the Russian Federation in all the steps it takes to protect its national interests and defend its people. He also referred to Russia’s efforts to reach a political solution to the crisis through the current negotiations with the Kiev authorities in a way that guarantees Russia’s interests and the rights of its people.

 Dayoub pointed out that President Vladimir Putin took the right decision that protects Russia’s security and strategic interests by defending Donbass residents and deterring US and NATO attempts to expand towards the Russian borders.

Dayoub explained that what Russia is facing these days of organized and studied attacks politically, militarily, media, economically and financially aimto drain it and harm its international reputation and distort its image in front of world public opinion, which is a distortion of facts.

Dayoub pointed out that Syria faced such Western media campaigns during the unjust terrorist war that it has been facing for nearly eleven years.

In turn, Gagaryan expressed his country’s thanks and appreciation for Syria’s supportive stance towards Russia and its vote in its favor during the last meeting of the United Nations General Assembly.

“We stood and still stand by Syria, and we will continue to support its people by defending their country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and fighting against Takfiri terrorism,” Gagaryan added.

Gagaryan stressed that the relations between Damascus and Moscow are old, historical and solid, and are based on mutual respect and serve the interests of the two friendly countries and peoples. He stressed that these relations are moving forward and prospering.
