DAMASCUS,(ST)_Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister has affirmed Syria’s support for the Palestinian people’s struggle against Israel’s attempts to Judaize al-Quds [Jerusalem] and liquidate the Palestinian cause.
Faisal al-Miqdad’s remark came during his meeting today with a delegation representing the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) headed by Ahmad Majdalani, member of the executive committee.
Al-Miqdad said:” Syria supports the Palestinians’ efforts in the UN Security Council for getting a banding resolution to end Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories and to guarantee the Palestinian peoples’ rights of return, self-determination and establishment of a Palestinian state with al-Quds [Jerusalem] as its capital.”
He added that the international community’s attitude towards this issue will unveil – once again- the countries that back prolonging the Israeli occupation and liquidating the Palestinian cause.
“Syria condemns Israel’s attempts to Judaize al-Quds and obliterate our Arab Islamic identity and establishment of more Zionist settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.”
Al-Miqdad blamed the massacres being perpetrated in the occupied lands on Israel, indicating that the crimes are being perpetrated amid support from known western states and silence of some Arab leaders that conspire against Syria and Palestine.
He underscored the need for continuity of providing the Palestinian camps in Syria with humanitarian aid and facing the terrorists that hinder the arrival of aid to the people in the camps.
De Mistura’s mission
On the other hand, al-Miqdad briefed the Palestinian delegation on the outcomes of the UN Envoy Staffan De Mistura’s recent visit to Syria.
“The success of De Mistura’s mission necessitates ending funding, arming and sheltering terrorists by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and other states in accordance with the UN resolutions No. 2178 and 2170,” he stressed.
Israel’s escalation against Palestinians
On his part, Majdalani talked about the situation on the Palestinian arena and Israel’s recent terrorist escalation against al-Quds city’s people and al-Aqsa Mosque.
He stressed that the Palestinian leadership is to ask the U.N. Security Council and international community to act in order to confront this escalation and to set a timeframe for the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories.
Majdalani reiterated the keenness of the Syrian and Palestinian leaderships to go ahead with easing the al-Yarmouk Camps’ locals’ suffering and making the camp free of terrorist groups that occupy it.
