Syria Strongly Condemns US-Led Coalition’s Blatant Aggression against Syrian Army Positions in Deir Ezzor

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Syria has strongly condemned the US-led Coalition’s Blatant aggression against Syrian Army positions in the province of Deir Ezzor, eastern Syria, stressing that such attacks hamper counterterrorism efforts, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said on Monday.

Addressing the UN Chief and President of the Security Council in two identical letters, the ministry said the aggression reaffirms that this coalition lacks credibility in effective fight against terrorism.

According to the ministry’s letters, four US-led coalition’s warplanes targeted one of the Syrian Arab army’s camps in Deir Ezzor province with 9 rockets.

Three soldiers were martyred and thirteen others were wounded. Seven armored and military vehicles, in addition to machineguns and a depot of arms and ammunition were destroyed in the attack.

“This heinous aggression comes as the Syrian Arab Army is fighting the takfiri terrorists of Daesh (ISIL), Jabhet al-Nousra and other al-Qaeda-affiliated groups across the country,” the ministry said, pointing out that the new attack hampers the efforts aiming to combat terrorism and stresses once again that the US-led coalition lacks credibility in the fight against terrorism; the serious and borderless danger that threatens security, peace and stability in the region and the entire world.

The ministry concluded the letters by asserting that the aggression is a blatant violation of the goals of the UN Charter and by urging the Security Council to immediately move and take necessary actions to prevent the repetition of such an attack.
