Damascus, (ST) – Syria strongly condemned the statement of the European Council on extending the sanctions imposed for an additional year on some Syrian institutions and individuals under the pretext of developing and using chemical weapons, stressing that it was based on hypocrisy and misinformation and comes as a continuation of the anti-Syrian campaign.

The source said that this statement was based on hypocrisy and deception, and it is a continuation of the anti-Syrian campaign that the European Council has resorted to since the beginning of the terrorist war on Syria and until now, using the Syrian chemical file as an excuse to continue spreading their lies against Syria.

The source added that Syria affirms that this statement once again demonstrates the lack of credibility of the European Council and falls within the framework of the approval of the policies of this Council on the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States of America with the aim of starving the Syrian people and undermining their steadfastness and solidarityThis statement also falls within the framework ofsupporting armed terrorist groups, including their repeated use of chemical weapons against innocent civilians.

The source concluded the statement by saying that ,Syria has repeatedly stressed that it considers the use of chemical weapons as unethical and it condemns its use anywhere, under any circumstance and against anyone. Syria reiterates that it does not possess any chemical weapons as part of its implementation of its obligations with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.
