Syria, South Ossetia Sign Agreement on Establishing Diplomatic Ties

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Syria and South Ossetia has signed an agreement on establishing diplomatic ties.

The agreement was signed by Deputy Premier Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem and the Foreign Minister of South Ossetia Dmitry Nikolayevich Medoyev following heir meeting on Sunday.

Talks during the meeting dealt with the importance of starting the boosting of bilateral relations between the two countries.

Al-Moallem said that the visit of Minister Medoyev and the accompanying delegation to Syria reflects the two countries’ interest in enhancing bilateral ties in the service the peoples of both countries.

The deputy premier reviewed developments of the situation in Syria and the region in the light of the victories being achieved by the Syrian Arab army and its allies on terrorism and its supporters.

 On his part, Medoyev highly appreciated the stance of the Syrian Arab Republic on the issue of recognizing the Republic of South Ossetia, stressing his country’s willingness to enhance political, economic and cultural relations with Syria.

He reiterated his country’s solidarity with Syria and the steadfast Syrian people who have been confronting a terrorist war as to preserve their country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, hoping that peace and stability will come back soon to all Syria to help the country restore its key role in the region and the world.
