Syria and South Korea Sign Agreement to Establish Diplomatic Relations
Damascus, April 10, 2025 – Today, Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shibani received in Damascus a high-level delegation from the Republic of South Korea headed by Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul, in a step that is the first of its kind in the course of relations between the two countries.
The Foreign Minister signed a diplomatic work agreement with his Korean counterpart to build and strengthen friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries to serve the interests of the two friendly peoples. They also agreed to open embassies and exchange diplomatic missions.
The two sides affirmed their desire to build their relationship on the basis of the principles of peaceful coexistence, sovereign equality between states, mutual respect for territorial sovereignty, and non-interference in each other’s internal affairs.
This step comes within the framework of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates’ relentless diplomatic efforts to restore the Syrian Arab Republic’s leading role in the region and the world, which it lost due to the policies of the former regime.
