Syria, South Africa Discussed Environmental Cooperation

DAMASCUS, (ST) _ Minister of State for Environmental Affairs Dr. Nazira Sarkis discussed, yesterday with the Ambassador of South Africa Xuan Banfeldt ways to strengthen cooperation relations to achieve environmental and plant safety in Syria, and the possibility of developing a memorandum of understanding for environmental cooperation, sustainable development and rehabilitation of degraded areas.

Minister Sarkis stressed during the meeting that the ministry is working in collaboration with sides concerned to develop an integrated national project to set appropriate plans that help preserve the environment in the next phase.

Banfeldt, for his part, expressed his country’s readiness to help in all economic, political and environmental levels, expressing his appreciation for the Syrian people steadfastness, he felt, during his stay in Syria.

Recently, minister Sarkis discussed with the Indonesian ambassador in Damascus Joko Haryanto ways of cooperation between the two countries in the environmental field, especially environment protection and biodiversity.
