DAMASCUS, (ST)-Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Khedr Orfali and the South African Ambassador in Damascus Shaun Benfeldt on Wednesday discussed ways of enhancing economic cooperation and activating signed agreements to increase trade exchange and investment opportunities in the era of reconstruction in Syria.
“We seek boosting Syria-South Africa cooperation in the service of the interests of both countries,” said Orfali, affirming that the ministry welcomes the South African companies in Syria, particularly as concerned bodies have started to draw up plans to rehabilitate the infrastructure and resume their economic, trade and investment activities very soon.
“The coming era will witness an optimistic process of reconstruction with promising investments,” Orfali said.
For his part Benfeldt showed his keenness to be briefed on the investment opportunities in Syria in all domains in order to help the South African companies take part in the reconstruction process and carry out projects that serve the interests of both countries.
The two sides also focused on the issue of reactivating the joint economic committee for cooperation.
Deputy Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Hayyan Salman affirmed the need to consolidate cooperation and coordination as well as trade exchange with all the BRICS states which have been supportive to Syria during the crisis.
