Syria slams US decision against Venezuela

Damascus – A source at the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said Syria has followed with concern the decision by the Obama administration issued on March 9 that legalizes US intervention in Venezuela’s affairs.

“The decision, which declared Venezuela an extraordinary threat to the national security of the United Nations, is a grave violation of international law and legitimacy,” said a source at the Ministry, according to Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

The source added that the decision gives one state the right, outside the purview of the UN Security Council, to interfere in the affairs of another under unconvincing pretexts.

Syria affirms its full rejection of the irresponsible decision which comes in the context of the US hostile policies towards sovereign states that refuse to be dictated to, said the source.

The source warned that the decision might be used by Washington against countries which decline to be pliant tools in the hands of imperialist states.

The source urged the international community to oppose US illegitimate intervention in the affairs of Venezuela, adding that the US should respect the safety of Venezuela’s territories.

Syria supports the Venezuelan people against such decision which will lead to increased tensions in the world, the source concluded.
