NEWYORK,(ST)_ Syria has signed (Minamata) on mercury agreement, concluded by UN member states at the end of their meetings in Kumamoto on October 10th, 2013.
The agreement was signed on behalf of Syria, at the UN headquarters on Wednesday, by Dr. Bashar Jaafari, Syria’s permanent representative to the UN.
This agreement is of great importance because it regulates the management of mercury, efficiently and effectively and is designed to spare humanity the hazardous environmental impacts of this poising chemical material.
Worthy mentioning that the agreement’s signing took place during a special ceremony organized by the UN Legal Affairs department with representatives from 18 countries.
