Syria Signs “Code of Conduct to Achieve a Terrorism-Free World”

NEW YORK, (ST)- Syria has signed the “Code of Conduct to Achieve a Terrorism-Free World” on the sidelines the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly currently held in New York.

Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari, Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations signed the code on Friday on behalf of the government of the Syrian Arab Republic. Representatives of more than 100 UN member countries also signed this political document.

The “Code of Conduct” affirms that fighting terrorism is a collective international action that must be based on true political will as to eliminate this threat and guarantee security and welfare to peoples of the world away from politicization or selectivity.

The code was prepared following an initiative by Kazakhstan. Syria effectively took part in the months-long consultations which led to adopting this document.

The document also stresses the need to join international efforts to eliminate all the elements and circumstances that caused the spread of terrorism, particularly elements linked to the dissemination and propagation of extremist ideas with blatant collusion of some parties that fund, arm and recruit terrorist groups and facilitate their movements worldwide.

Syria’s participation in preparing and signing this political document comes within its principled stance which is based on fighting this global threat (terrorism) and confronting all the parties involved in supporting and financing terrorism or using it as a political and military tool to cause chaos, destruction and death in all parts of the world.
