Syria: Sending weapons by the West to Ukraine aims to escalate the crisis

GENEVA, March.3, (ST)-Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Hussam Al-Din Alaa, said that sending missiles and lethal weapons by the west to Ukraine and imposing unilateral coercive measures against Russia aim to escalate the crisis and exert pressure on Russia.

“Human rights council’s fulfillment of its role in protecting and boosting the human rights should be based on cooperation and dialogue, and should adhere to principles of non-selectivity and objectivity away from any politicization,” Alaa said at the urgent dialogue session held on Thursday about Ukraine during the 49th round of tge Human Rights Council.

He clarified that holding the current session after years of silence on violations of human rights in Donbass  and on Ukraine’s bombing of residential areas in Russian territories is not based on concern over human rights but it is based on political agendas and interests.

The ambassador added that Syria doesn’t consider this session or the politicized draft resolution submitted to it as a rightful basis to deal with the Human rights’ concern in Ukraine in a comprehensive or fair way, calling on member states to stop this politicized method that contradicts the role of the HRC and its responsibility to find peaceful settlements to crises.
