Syria has called on world parliaments to speak up about the necessity of the withdrawal of US and Turkish occupation forces from Syria.
The call was made during the 1st Global Parliamentary Summit on Counter-Terrorism that kicked off on Thursday in Vienna.
The Head of the participating Syrian delegation in the summit MP. Botros Morjana stressed that the Turkish occupation has turned the region of Idlib into a center for terrorists through supporting terrorist gangs by all means and transporting part of them to Yemen, Libya, Azerbaijan and Africa.
He also clarified that the US occupation has established another center for thousands of ISIS terrorists and claims that those terrorists are prisoners and transports them to the areas of conflicts.
“Recently, the US occupation has transported around 100 ISIS terrorists from Hasakah to Afghanistan,” Morjana said, pointing out that the UN resolution No. 2178 for the year 2014 brands ISIS and Al-Nusra Front organizations and the affiliated groups as terrorist groups that must be countered.
For his part, president of the National Council Wolfgang Sobotka, said during a speech he gave in the opening ceremony about the key role of the parliaments in preventing terrorism and developing effective strategies to combat extremism , mainly the current situations in Afghanistan and Africa.
Sobotka referred to the fact that terrorism and extremism pose a threat to the security of states, the values of democratic societies and the freedom of citizens, adding that the national parliaments play a major role in combating terrorism through issuing laws, ratifying international conventions and implementing related measures.
According to the Syrian News Agency (SANA), the summit focuses on combating violent extremism and hate speech, developing effective strategies, discussing challenges and searching for effective solutions to those affected by terrorism.
The summit is held in cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union(IPU) and the United Nations.
