Syria’s Territorial Integrity Should be Respected: IPU

GENEVA, (ST)- The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) has called for respecting the territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic and for reviving the Russian-American agreement on cessation of hostilities in Syria.

In a statement on Wednesday regarding the humanitarian situation in Syria, the IPU said that the 135th session of IPU General Assembly urged Russia and the United States as well as all influential parties “to resume dialogue, find a lasting political solution to the crisis in Syria, respect Syria’s unity and put an end to the ongoing terrorist war that has claimed the lives of innocent people including women and children.”

 The statement called for immediate halting of attacks against the Syrian people and infrastructure, for lifting the siege imposed on the Syrians and stopping coercive displacement. It also called for allowing representatives of humanitarian organizations to reach civilians and provide relief aid to besieged people.

The 135th Session of the IPU Assembly kicked off on October 24.

IPU Committees Discuss Issues Relating to Development, Human Rights and Democracy

 IPU’s Committees held their meeting s with the participation of the Syrian delegation to the  135th Session of the IPU Assembly. The agendas dealt with putting an end to foreign interference in sovereign countries internal affairs, human rights, sustainable development and enhancing women’s participation in political life.
