Syria’s Second Periodical Report on Women Discussed Marking International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women
DAMASCUS, (ST)- Marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Syrian Commission for Family Affairs and Population held a workshop to discuss the comments of the International Committee in charge of eliminating all forms of discrimination against women on Syria’s second periodical report presented to the committee last July on the situation of Women in Syria.
Head of the Syrian Commission for family Affairs Hadeel al-Asmar affirmed the need to draw up a national plan to maintain Syrian women’s rights and fortify them against all forms of violence.
She asserted that this plan should be put in partnership with government and civil society parties as to be approved in order to help improve the situation of women under the ongoing crisis and in the post crisis era.
Al-Asmar affirmed that the violations and crimes committed by terrorist groups against women and children in some Syrian areas necessitate immediate action by all concerned parties to put an end to these violent and terrorist practices.
The UNICEF Resident Representative in Damascus, Hana Sanjar expressed the organization’s readiness to provide necessary assistance to government projects which had attained great achievements for women before the crisis, particularly in the area of protecting women and children rights.
